When launching a clothing brand, it is important to
research what are the factors andinfluences for both the consumers and the industry.
That is why it is smart to think about aligning yourself or becoming a member
of a registered trade association. Not
many people understand what exactly a trade association is or what do they do.
So to better understand and put things in perspective, lets define what trade
association is.
For this
I recommend doing a local search of trade groups in the area. Depending on your
location and particular business structure, there are many organizations to
choose from. I also recommend researching the apparel and textile industry database for the list associations and organizations that are available. Also attending fashion trade shows provide
another avenue for you to network and become familiar with some of these
organizations. Trade shows such and
Sourcing at Magic and Project are some of the industry leading shows that is
highly recommend for starters.
For this
I decided to follow and in the future become an affiliate member of American Apparel& Footwear Association (AAFA). The American Apparel & Footwear
Association (AAFA) is the national trade association representing apparel,
footwear and other sewn products companies, and their suppliers which compete
in the global market. Their mission is to promote and enhance its member’s
competitiveness, productivity and profitability in the global market by
minimizing regulatory, legal, commercial, political, and trade restraints. They focus on issues such as international
trade, product safety, social responsibility, customs& Logistics,
intellectual property and more importantly sustainability.
